I trusted the dentist to take care of my teeth, health and wellbeing when I was younger.
Little did I know or understand the impact of amalgam fillings on my life.
I began to research online, to which I didn't find many promising evidence.
Then I was given The Toxic Time Bomb book, and it changed my life.
I decided to take notes, so I could blog it, spreading the information for others.
Mercury is very toxic, in this blog I mostly talk about the impact of this metal in dental work.
I did find a video explaining how amalgam fillings leak mercury into the mouth, especially when chewing or drinking hot drinks.
I started this journey in 2019, with an X-ray (The blog picture).
Then the work started in 2020 at Berkeley's Clinic in Glasgow, with Stewart the Holistic Dentist.
£5,000+ later, I am nearly complete. With just a few more finishing touches and a Digital splint (mouth guard), I will feel like a brand new person!
Before and after pictures of my teeth, will be shown in November (once I have finished treatments).
Do you have 'silver fillings' ?
Have you ever wondered why you don't feel, energized?
Then it's time for you to go down the rabbit hole and learn the truth about Mercury...
The Toxic Time Bomb - By Sam Ziff 1984 (Book Quotes)
"India was using mercury as a drug in 500BC.
In the 13th century is spread to Europe.
16th century is was the 'drug of choice'. Until it was identified as the cause of poisoning among miners working in the mercury mines of Atria and Spain. They suffered the following; tremor, gastrointestinal disturbances, oral infections and blackening of teeth. The mining hours changed from 16hrs to 6hrs per day.
1685 France made mercury hats.
1713 a chemical factory was charged by 'The pollution of the local environment' due to death rates increasing in the local area. This was known as the first public outcry over the effects against health. Mercury was then identified as a neurotoxicant.
Inorganic Mercury
Once the mercury is inside the body, it attaches to sulfur containing compounds that are part of the protein molecule and continues to travel around the body. The concern is exposure to mercury vapours being given off.
How the inorganic mercury enters the body:
absorbed through the skin
orally (mucus membranes)
the digestive tract
Organic Mercury
Alkylmercurials are considered the most dangerous. This enters the body and goes straight into the blood:
inhalation
skin absorption
oral ingestion
Methylmercury poisoning are a reflection of damage to both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, which can lead to blindness. The same toxic ingredients was used in plants, wheat and barely to create bread. 6500 people were hospitalized and 500 people died.
Phenyl mercuric is found in water based paint - do not inhale, it is very toxic.
The impact
20,000,000 pounds of mercury flow into the sea each year (this may have increased in the 2000's).
1,000,000 pounds of Chlorine and Alkai producers a year.
1,000,000 pounds of Fungicides a year in Agriculture.
6,000,000 - 10,000,000 millions of pounds coal burning a year.
Mercury is a cytotoxic. It acts as a toxin or an antibody and has a poisonous effect on the cells. If mercury or other metals get into the tooth pulp, they have to get out the alveolar bone and tissues that support the teeth. Signs of mercury toxicity:
Bleeding gums
Gingivitis
Pyorrhoea
Periodontitis
Mercury travels biological pathways, as it is attracted to thiol, which is a tiny organic compound (univalent radical called Sulfhydryl and identified by the symbol SH (Sulfur-hydrogen)). Basically thiol attracts one atom of mercury in the ionized form and have it combine with itself. Because it is radical, it can enter into or go out of this combination without any change.
Amino acids are the building blocks from which proteins of all organisms are built.
Cysteine is both interior and exterior
Nearly all enzymes are made of Globular protein (transports the oxygen, nutrients and inorganic ions in the blood)
Globular protein is antibodies in our immune system, others are hormones (or components of membranes and ribosomes)
Biological pathways for thiols to combine with mercury iron are:
Tissue cell receptor sites
Hormones and Enzymes
Erythrocytes (red blood cells)
Glutathione (protein of 3 amino acids)
Coenzymes A and Succinyl-Coenzyme A
Myosin (protein muscles)
Cholinergic receptors in heart muscle
Factor XIH (protein of blood coagulation)
Thioredoxin (protein of DNA)
Where is the mercury stored
Kidneys
Heart muscle
Lungs
Liver
Brain
Red blood cells
Thyroid
Pituity
Adrenals
Spleen
testies
Bone marrow
Skeletal muscle
Intestinal wall
Mercury stays in the brain, even 10 years after exposure
Mercury prevents neurotransmitters, dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin from getting into the central nervous system in the brain and performing their normal functions.
Mercury is associated with Parkinson's disease.
Renal Function
Nephrotoxicity is destructive to kidney cells
Pathological biochemical damage to the lungs
Chronic exposure to mercury vapour may cause Proteinuria (proteins in urine)
Overall, kidney damage
Conclusion
Dental amalgam is an unstable alloy that releases its components in the form of mercury vapour, metallic ions and abraded particles into the oral environment.
Analytical measurements of mercury in the urine, blood and hair of subjects do not correlate to the body burden of toxic effects of mercury.
The element mercury as well as a number of its compounds are highly toxic to humans. In addition, it was pointed out that other components of dental amalgam (e.g. copper) are also toxic to humans.
Mercury, as well as other metallic materials used in dentistry can elicit a hypersensitive (allergic) response."
My Conclusion
Seek an holistic dentist, speak your concerns and make sure that they can safely remove these fillings and replace them with BPA free fillings or remove if necessary.
The best decision you will ever make, is putting your health first.
