The truth about gluten, and why I stopped eating it!

December 2015, I decided to quit gluten.

I researched a lot in this area, as I didn't believe I had any intolerance to it, I knew Glyphosate is sprayed on all non-organic wheat products... So I went ahead with this challenge.

This meant I needed to quit the 'carb' life, to which I never really enjoyed anyway.

So I said goodbye to conventional bread, pasta, pizza and cereals (also anything else that had 'gluten' in the ingredients).

Scott continued to join me with the monthly challenges, despite being huge carb lover!

Having each other for support on the journey helped us get through some of the tougher times. When you're continually growing and changing the old life you once new becomes a distant shadow in the light of your new mind set and character. Throughout these challenges Scott and I grew stronger together and the realisation that we can make any choice we decide to, at any time in our lives, the world becomes your luscious playground.

At some point in all of our lives we must look inward at the things we say, think, and feel, and how deeply they effect us in everyday life. A simple belief in foods like breads, pastas, pizzas, cakes etc. that you wouldn't expect to see in nature, can hinder us from seeing truths.

I noticed again, more energy! The most impressive positive side effect of not consuming the gluten products, is the acne on the top of my arms started to disappear! To which I always felt so self-conscious about, and even got a tattoo to cover up the acne instead of healing it.

I know, sounds bizarre? Well I tried lots of creams, which never worked.

I also felt less 'bloated' and more focused, as gluten tends to fog the mind.

Relapses

Consuming gluten accidently in foods that we didn't expect, meant it set us back even more so than any other challenge. This is because Gluten takes at least 6-8 months for it to be fully detoxed out of the body. So as you can imagine, after the first 2 or 3 mistakes/set backs, we certainly learnt out lesson. We have been gluten free for over 5 years now!

Conclusion

Incredible to experience and feel how my body reacted to all of the changes I decided to go through. After each time I stopped eating certain foods for a month, I wanted to see how my body reacted, because I promised myself, if I started to deteriorate and get worse, I would eat it again. What I hadn't released is, how amazing I would feel eliminating it from my diet!

It's as if the processed sugar was clouding my vision from all the possibilities.

We truly can do anything we put our minds too.

The picture is a gluten free homemade pizza (recipe coming soon).
